Background

Assam is special because of its location in the Ganges Basin. This area receives more rainfall per year than any other location on Earth. This surplus of water creates the fertile soil that has lead Assam to become known for its rich black teas. Assam’s black teas are so valued that they are often used as a base for English teas you may have enjoyed, such as English Breakfast.

Assam Tea Fields
The tea fields of Assam, India where this tea was grown.

This black tea is direct from a single farm at the heart of India’s historic tea growing region – Assam, India. Each leaf has been hand-selected and delicately rolled in the traditional orthodox style to provide its deep and complex flavor. A whiff reveals notes of malt and honey. A sip confirms both balanced together beautifully in a long, smooth finish.

Due to a renewed interest in quality and the natural handling of tea, there has been a resurgence of specialty farmers using the old Orthodox style. We’re fortunate enough to be able to bring this one to you.

“I ordered Maker’s Orthodox Assam Black Tea recently and it has become my go-to brew. I love its freshness, depth, and complexity. And the aroma is something else, wafting from a mug on my desk. Overall a well-crafted and packaged product. I was delighted to receive a neatly boxed container of tea, plus a wooden scoop and fresh tea bags to get me started.”
